as i write the last argent code book

I think I have decided, as I'm sitting here writing Code Collapsed, that the last book in a series goes the fastest. In some ways, that defies logic, since there are all kinds of loose ends that an author has to pull together in a way that is logical and cohesive. One might think that should take more time, but I think there are a couple of factors that counter that assumption.

• By the third book, you really know your characters well. I don't have to sit and think about how Callan would answer Delaney's question or what Tyson might do when he's afraid and feeling vulnerable. I already know these people very well, as I've lived with them every day for almost six months.

• I have a good vision of how I want to end everything and the obstacles that still remain in the way.

Additionally, though I love every book in the series, the last book is probably my favorite because it's the place where redemption and healing happen to the greatest degree. Everything that these characters have suffered, not just in the prior books but also throughout their lives, comes to a head, and they either accept or reject the healing and love being offered.

Of course, I'm famous for happy endings, so the former is much more likely than the latter when you read a Meridith Gibbens book.

Just some fun musings this afternoon as I begin to work on Chapter 10 of Code Collapsed!
